Fad Friday~ 70's Mauve and Blog Hop

It's Fad Friday! What fad is driving you to dress the way you do? You guys already know that I dream of being in some vintage movie, dancing and singing with the likes of Gene Kelly. I seriously was born in the wrong era. But today we will jump a couple decades forward to the 70's. 70's fashion is not my favorite but it's pretty high on my like list. I love the funky, uniqueness of it all. For some reason I invision John Travolta and the Bee Gees every time I think of something from the 70's. I wish my hubby and I could learn those dance moves. That would be awesome!
I love how the 70's brings out the brightest colors and boldest prints. Everything is so over the top. Big hair, bell bottom jeans and platform shoes, just to name a few. This dress I'm about to show you is rather mild for 70's standards but I have one in the closet that needs a little needle and thread and then it's good to go. I'll post pics soon:)
I tried to give my hair the Farrah Fawcett flip. I need to grow it out a couple more inches to get the full effect. I paired the dress with the biggest heeled boots I've have and a brown belt to match.
Oh and brown tights as well. It snowed that morning and it was a bit chilly. We started in the house for the shots due to the cold wind but I couldn't resist taken pics in the snow:)
I wish I would have gotten a shot were you could see my earrings. They are animal print hoops. They totally pulled the funk out.
I'm super sad that Picnik is going away. I seriously might shed a tear over this! If you guys know of a program that does stuff similar to Picnik, will you let me know! PLEASE! So what do you think? Did I do the 70's justice?
As we part let reminisce with a little Bee Gees. You know what I want to do today? Strut! Jamie~

Thrifting Thursday~ Humane Society Shopping

Hello Ladies, How's your Thursday treating you? Mine was crampy! After dragging my self into the gym this morning, (FYI, helps cramps) I decided I'd go clothes shopping, thrift style! I must admit, after seeing what other blog gals have found at there local goodwill or thrift stores, I'm a little jealous. We have "used" items at ours and its what I would call "authentic" thrifting. I'm not dissing you for getting your stuff for dirt cheap and new with tags. I'm just saying its slim pickins in this neck of the woods. I didnt find anything vintage per say. I think the navy blue polka dot belt might be the oldest item I found.

I did find some expensive name brand items though. Anybody know who Ralph Lauren is?I'll be looking preppy in no time!
Christopher and Banks called my name with this red skirt~
This skirt was also calling, no tags other than wool, dry clean only.
Don't ask me what I saw in this next piece. Maybe it's my inner nurse coming out. I think this would look cute with some denim skinny jeans and some Ralph Lauren riding boots. If only I could fork out the 100+ for a pair. By the way it's much cuter in person, gold button and all.
Anyone want to go back to the 80's with me? I'm gonna have to perm my hair for this dress.
My little girl has been asking me for some vintage clothes. It's slim pickins for children's vintage but I happened to see this. It is obviously made by a sweet sewing grandma. I'll take pics of my little model soon. She thinks it's the coolest thing to have her picture on moms blog.
All my thrifting, cost me 17.00 dollars today. Not to bad! Now it's time to pull and put clothes together to make a complete outfit. Wish me luck! I'll post some pics with the end results. Talk atcha later~ Jamie

Fad Friday~ Green Polka Dotted Dress

Happy Fad Friday to all you beauties in blog land!
What Fad are you wearing this week. Remember the definition of Fad?
1. an intense but short-lived fashion; craze
2. a personal idiosyncrasy or whim.
I definitely fall into the #2 definition. I don't really understand why fashion has to be so, right now it's stripes, so everyone wear stripes or the color is purple, so wear purple, but that's how it goes. Right now it's Polka Dots. Remember the vinatge dresses I found at a thrift store a couple weeks back. Well one of the dresses just so happened to have polka dots. I'm thinking this dress is 40's/50's vintage.
So here is the photo session (taken by my 10 yr old daughter) of my green polka dotted dress.

Did I mention how much I love Picnik? Photo cropping at it's best!:)
Ok, so whether you are wearing stripes or polka dots this week, remember to always just BE YOU! Have a blessed weekend! Jamie

Whatever Wednesday~ Have you tried PaperBackSwap Yet?

It feels good to be back. The phone service at my house has been all messed up for the past 2 days. Which means no internet for me. Yes, you can imagine how sick I was without my daily blog fix but I made it through with the help of my iphone. I needed a magnifiying glass to read the print but beggers can't be chooser right.:) Anywho~ Trade Books for Free - PaperBack Swap. Have you guys ever heard of PaperBackSwap? If you haven't yet, let me fill you in. It's a great way to get gently used books for free. You only pay shipping which is so darn cheap you won't believe it. Here's how
So,I recieved an emial today saying that someone wanted a book I had listed. I clicked the print postage button and printed out my "wrapping paper" for the book. Here is a quick tutorial of how easy it is to mail out a book.
If you want you can purchase PBS money that adds postage to your book wrapping based on weight and shipping location.

This saves me a trip to the post office and standing in line, so it's a win win for me. I just pop it in the mail box when I'm done wrapping it up.

Now this next part isn't rocket science and I'm certainly not a wrapping experts but try to make sure you have the book completely wrapped on all sides. I wrap the book in plastic wrap first, just in case the paper gets wet by rain.

Wrap the back of the book with page 2 and Tape, Tape, Tape!
Place the shipping label page 1 over the top and Tape, Tape, Tape!

It's really that simple folks. If you have some books you know you need to part with, try PBS out. I'm getting a cook book with my credit for shipping this one. One more thing, if you do decide to sign up for free, click on the banner at the top so I can get a credit for referring you. You guys are the best! Happy reading~ Jamie

Fad Friday~ Checkered Dress

World English Dictionary
FAD
1. an intense but short-lived fashion; craze
2. a personal idiosyncrasy or whim

Fad Friday is my intense but sometimes short-lived fashion craze, based on my own idiosyncrasies and whims! I will be straightforward and tell you that I have no clue what the fashion etiquette rules are. I don't pay attention to the newest trends. I don't buy expensive designer clothes. I really don't want another persons name or brand taking up the whole front of my shirt. I'm not your walking billboard. Sheesh! I'm just looking for clothes that reflect my personality, my style and my shape.
As you already know, I love vintage clothes. I do the excited pee pee dance whenever I get the newest item. They make me happy and I feel like I'm meant to be wearing them. It's really hard to explain;) I recently found a whole heap of vintage dresses at a local thrift store. I was like a kid with candy. I've decided I will wear one every Sunday and post them here on Fad Friday for you to see my collection. This first dress is so much fun, super comfy and has these over sized pockets on the side that I adore.
I wore my favorite red peep toe high heels and some black tights for warmth in this January cold. I also added a black belt to my waist for added emphasizes on the balloon skirt. The dress is probably 3 sizes to big for me but I don't care. I loved every minute, being in it!
These pictures were enhanced through Picnik. My new favorite thing to do to my pictures.

To complete this look, curl hair with 1 inch curling iron and slap on the best red lipstick you've got. Bring out that vintage beauty, even if it's only on Sunday's. Jamie

Thrifting Thursday~

'Thrifting' refers to the act of shopping at a thrift store, flea market, garage sale, or a shop of a charitable organization, usually with the intent of finding interesting items at a cheap price. A larger philosophy permeates the act of thrifting which celebrates the recycling of formerly-owned items, finding new use and new love for vintage material goods which had been thrown out, and the thrill of imagining what the former life of the item was like.

I love thrifting!!! It's one on my most favorite things on planet earth to do. I love getting something for cheap, period! But it's not always about a bargain. I love old as well. Vintage things are like a drug to me. For all you thrifters, you know what I mean!
I recently found some silverplated items at a thrift store that was going out of business. My favorite one!:( I have been moving them around the house trying to find them a semi permanet home. The first piece cost me 5 dollars. I'm using it as a perfume tray. It's purtty!
Next up is this adorable seashell shaped dish. It was in pretty bad shape when I purchased it. It was only a dollar though. The silver plating was coming off but I kinda liked the look of it. It gives it defintion with constrating colors.
I'm using it as a soap display dish.
This next piece serves as a jewelry holder. I think I paid 6 dollars for it. I wasn't using this candle votive anymore so I thought it would make a good jewelry holder. I'm bad about taking my jewelry off all over the house. I have a collection of earrings on the night stand next to the bed, some are in the closet and some end up on the floor. So hopefully by putting this by the bathroom mirror, I will be able to keep better track of them all. Did I mention I have a huge jewelry cabinet that I rarely use. Shame on me! Check this out!:)
Feeling fancy yet?
Loving it~
Pretty~
I think I like it!~

That's my Thrifting Thursday to cents for today. Hope you have a blessed tomorrow~ Jamie

Whatever Wednesday ~

I just love saying whatever, don't you?
Whatever Wednesday is all about whatever I want to blog about. It might be something I'm working on that day. It might be a the way I'm feeling that day. It might be a whole post on a "W" word. Like Whatever! :) Anyway..... I have been organizing my bathroom drawers today. I am determined to get this house in order. All the organizing tips posted in blog land have been real helpful. Warning: the pictures you are about to see may cause complete hysteria.

But rest assured that better pictures are to come. Here is what my drawers looked like before.
Dreadful, I know!
Now let's see if you can see a difference.

My 3 drawers above, Hubby's drawers below.
The reason why he only has 2 drawers is because I hogged the top drawer for my curling iron and flat iron. That drawer was pretty clean before so I didn't include a pic.
Under the sink~

Now for the most important transformation. My makeup holder!
I have a jewelry box that I fit next to the Tupperware. I just flipped the lid to the box upside down and place the eye and lip stuff in it.
It's amazing how different things look and how much better you feel when things are organized.
I only purchased a few small plastic dividers and the rest are items I had at the house. So don't be afraid to use what you've got. Well, whatever you did on your Wednesday, I hope it was fun and organized. If not, whatever:) Jamie
